Dr. Pérez Ramírez earned his degree as a Chemist, Bacteriologist, and Parasitologist from the National Polytechnic Institute in 1995, followed by a Master’s in Microbiology in 1998 and a PhD in Science in 2001. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the CDC in Atlanta, focusing on vaccine development, and later obtained an MBA from IPADE. Throughout his career, he has worked on various biotechnological areas such as nitrogen fixation, molecular strain characterization, recombinant protein expression, and process development. Currently, he leads operations at the Mexican biopharmaceutical company PROBIOMED, overseeing over 400 employees. His responsibilities include the development and production of recombinant vaccines, chemical synthesis, drug formulation, and monoclonal antibody production. He has led 14 research projects funded by CONACyT, published extensively (with over 1500 citations), and holds two patents with another pending. Dr. Pérez Ramírez has mentored doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students, is a member of the National Researchers System (Level 2) and the Mexican Academy of Sciences, and serves on Mexico’s Pharmacopoeia Biotechnology Commission. His awards include the State Science and Technology Award (2013) and the José Antonio Alzate Medal (2016).
